About Being Councillor Representing my own community as a councillor is a great honour, and everyday I am conscious of the responsibility entrusted to me by the people of Caboolture Shire’s Division 6. What drove me to become councillor, and still drives me today, is an absolute belief in my community, and a passion to serve that community.
I believe we live in a great area, and it is getting better. The lifestyle we enjoy at this special place must be envy of many others. That’s why people of many different backgrounds are choosing in such large numbers to make Deception Bay and Burpengary their new home. This growth means we all have a responsibility to protect our area, and to keep building an even safer and more prosperous community.
What is the role of a councillor? The best way to look at it is this way. I represent the electors of Division 6 within Council, as we debate and decide the best way to build, create and provide council services and facilities. I also represent Council within my own community – I communicate Council’s decisions and can be the “voice” or face of an organisation that employs nearly 900 people, has an annual budget of over \$160 million, and an asset base of around \$1 billion. |
